Lets Learn a Trick!

Every week there will be a free trick. The tricks that will be taught will not be hard to do. It will not involve any sleight of hand and will be easy to do. The tricks that you are about to learn will not be tricks that are for advanced people and will not be tricks that John would perform in his show. They are just neat little tricks that you can show your family or friends if you want.

This week (7/29/09), it will be a neat card trick you can show your friends. Let me know your reactions.

For this trick all you need is a deck of cards.

The Effect:

The magician writes down a "prediction" on a notecard and puts it to the side so all can see.  The magician then shows a deck of cards and they are all different. The spectator then picks ANY number between 11-19. Lets say they chose 12. The spectator deals 12 cards off from the top. Then the spectator adds up the two digits of the number they have chosen. For example, for 12 it would be 1+2: 3. Lets say it was 17. 1+7:8. So back to the trick. They have a pile with 12 cards and their other number is 3. Using the pile with 12 cards, they deal out 3 cards and flip the third card over. The magician flips over the predicion revealing that he has written down the same exact card.

Want to learn it?

All you need is a deck of cards. The trick is simple. All you need to do is remember the 10th card from the top of the deck. Make sure you do this before you start the trick. After you have remembered the 10th card from the top, write it down on a notecard. Lets say the 10th card from the top was the 2 of clubs. You would then write "2 of Clubs" on the back of the notecard and on the front of the notecard, you would write "Prediction". You are pretty much all set. The trick is self explanatory from there. Whatever number they chose between 11 and 19, and then adding of the two digits, it will always equal to the original 10th card (in this case the 2 of clubs).

Review

Look at the deck beforehand and write down the 10th card from the top on a prediction note card

Then, remember to have them deal out ANY number between 11 and 19

Then whatever number they deal out, to take that pile and add up their digits. For example lets say they dealt out 15 cards. They would then add 1 and 5 together to make 6.

Using the pile with 15 cards, they would then deal 6 cards from the top and flip over the 6th card. It will always be the original 10th card from the top of the deck and match your prediction.
